How to add phone number to a user in StatusPage audience specific?

Iulia_Sandu May 8, 2024

I need to have SMS notifications sent out of Status Page to the users. How to update an existing user to add a phone number, in the audience specific plan?

Bulk uploads only work for new user creation. How about updating existing users?

Hi @Iulia_Sandu ,

Audience specific pages give user access to view pages, but if they also want to be subscribed to updates via a specific method like SMS, the user would need to go to the page itself and click the 'subscribe' button and enter their phone number.

Hi John, due to the nature of the business, we're doing an automated subscription of all users, we've not enabled the user to self-subscribe.

For this scenario, there should be a method for admins to update user's profiles and add a phone number. Is there anything that can be done, besides deleting all users and adding them again through a bulk upload?

I would have expected to have the same functionalities for user creation via GUI and bulk upload, i.e be able to associate a phone number to a user via the GUI. Is there any reasons why this is not possible through the user interface?

Thanks,

Iulia

Hi @Iulia_Sandu ,

SMS subscriptions are completely separate from the email subscriptions, which is why you can't update an email subscription to add an SMS contact to it. Since it is not associated with the user's email subscription, you would use the 'add subscriber' option to add a new SMS subscription.

Hi John, is this 'add subscriber' option under the audience specific plan? There's only the option to add users. So my question is, how can an SMS be added to a user (compared to subscriber) for Audience Specific? Thanks

Hi @Iulia_Sandu ,

Sorry about that, I was looking at a public page, there is actually no 'add subscriber' option for audience specific pages.

However, with Audience-specific pages you actually can associate a user's email with their phone number for SMS notifications, unlike with public pages, where SMS is a separate subscription.

The only way to do this though is to first export the users, then add the numbers for the SMS subscriptions to the CSV and upload it again.

Hi @John M thanks for checking.

I tried the CSV upload. But it only works to add new users (email + phone number). Updating an existing user to associate a phone number is not supported through this method (no updates supported, only adding new users).

That's why I was questioning this in the first place. Is there any way to update an user to add a phone number for Audience specific? How can i do that without deleting the users and then adding them again through a bulk upload? (not a very good customer experience this way).

Is there a way maybe for Atlassian to do it via a service request?

Thanks
