copy issues between JWM and JDP

secutechconsultingservices April 19, 2024

Hello,
when I export issues from JWM to CSV and then import them to JDP, can I manipulate those issues in JDP without affecting the original issues in JWM?

Essentially, I want to showcase the issues in JDP for demos purposes without altering them in JWM. is this possible? and will the issues be duplicated?

thanks

Hi @secutechconsultingservices ,

Exporting JWM issues, then importing them into JPD would create new ideas completely independent from the JWM issues - meaning any changes on the newly created JPD ideas would not affect any of the previous JWM issues (and vice versa).

We would suggest following these steps to import your JWM issues into JPD and create new ideas: Import existing Jira issues into Jira Product Discovery

We would also suggest creating the fields within JPD that you want to map 1-to-1 from JWM issues to JPD ideas during the import. You should have the field-types be consistent between the two products meaning if the JWM field is single-select, the JPD field should be single-select, etc.

The import does not have the functionality to create new fields, but if the fields exist and are mapped 1-to-1, the import can create the field values if those don't already exist.

Hope all that makes sense. Let us know if you have any questions about what's mentioned above.

Hi @Nick H thanks for the response.

Hi @secutechconsultingservices ,

This doc should help with creating custom fields.

Only project admins can create fields if you notice any restrictions following these steps:

Create a new custom field

  1. In any view, go to Fields.
Now you can see fields that are actively being used in the selected view at the top. In the lower section, the ones that aren’t visible in the view.

  2. Select Create a new field.

  3. Give the field a unique name and select the field type. You can see the complete list reference here.

  4. Select Create.

  5. You can now add an emoji next to the field name in the main view and a description.
