Mass Update / Import Failing

Bryan Riley March 27, 2024

Does anyone have any tips and tricks on how to get the mass upload to work?  I have a few thousand stories that I need to just update the Team value.  In most cases I need to update it from one value to another.  In other cases I need to remove the value that is there.

I've followed the import instructions.   The preview shows no issues, but then when I try to import it just fails every time.

@Bryan Riley  For a moment can we focus on the actual update you are trying to make?

Team (assuming you have integrated the custom field to represent team) should be a field in Jira that you could perform bulk updates upon, once the change is made in Jira the change would trigger a sync on those stories and the value would be updated in JA.

Do you know if you have the team value integrated from Jira to JA?

Hello @Bryan Riley

I trust you're doing well. I'm really sorry to hear that you're encountering difficulties while updating work items via the Import process. I can understand how frustrating this must be for you.

If it's not too much trouble, could you please share some screenshots of the errors that are being displayed? This will greatly assist us in identifying the root of the issue and finding a suitable solution.

I truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

If you have any difficulties or need further assistance with these steps, please do not hesitate to raise a JA support ticket using this link. We're here to help and would be more than happy to assist you!

The validation of the five items shows the values, none are in red.  It would seem the import should work.

Hi, Rodrigo.

We do already have an open ticket with Atlassian. But any other thoughts here may be helpful.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Bryan / Lyle!

I will collaborate internally on the open ticket trying to provide you a fix ASAP.

The issue, for future reference, was that a Story import requires Parent Feature.

Hi, @Bryan Riley.  Is your file larger than 4MB? That's the size limit.

If not, I suggest breaking your uploads into smaller chunks (e.g., 100 stories at a time) to see if you have better luck that way. I am not aware of any hard limits, and can't find anything in the docs. It's an educated guess.

Hope it helps, or that someone else might have a better answer.

Thank you for the reply!  I've only tried with just five records just to ensure it's doing what I would expect.  I've tried a few different things...

I left all the other tabs in the file.  I took the other tabs out of the file.  On the stories tab I removed all the other non-required fields I'm not trying to update.

I've tried it as an xml as I believe it's supposed to be. I've tried changing to an .xls.

Does anyone have a sample file that they've used for this purpose that they know has worked?
