Introduction

Lennert Timmers October 31, 2023

Hi all,

I work as a software engineer at an University in the Netherlands. At this moment we are preparing our migration of Jira en Confluence from server to the Cloud.

One thing we are struggling at this moment is about the best method to provision our AAD users en groups to Atlassian Access. We have configured SCIM at the moment, but this does not work with nested AD groups. So now were are also looking at this new option to sync via the Graph API (Azure AD for nested groups).

Best regards,

Lennert

As you might be aware already, nested groups are not and will not be supported in Atlassian Cloud (at least in the near future). The solution is to flattened the groups as part of the Cloud migration preparation and testing. You can check this article.

https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/prepare-nested-groups-for-cloud-migration/

This is in line with the recently released new feature that allows you flatten groups. Here is a community article talking about this.

I hope this information points you in the right direction.
