New triggers in Jira Cloud Automation and improvements to rule imports

Hi Community

We’re excited to announce today:

  • new triggers in Jira Cloud automation, and

  • improvements to rule imports.

Let’s take a look!

New triggers

The first new trigger is on Issue Comment Deletion. This trigger enables you to automate actions whenever a comment is deleted from an issue within the project space. Smart values can be used to include additional context on the deleted comment in rule components.

The second new trigger is on Version Deletion. This trigger enables you to automate actions when a version is deleted from a release. Smart values can be used to include additional context on the deleted comment in rule components.

Improvements to rule imports

In addition to the new triggers, we’re also rolling out improvements to the rule importer for our Enterprise customers, allowing you to import large numbers of rules in one go. Here’s what’s changing:

  1. Increased capacity: You can now import more automation rules at a time. While the rule importer previously timed out after 30 seconds, it now times out after 15 minutes — allowing you to import many more rules. We estimate you’ll be able to import approximately 1,500 rules at a time.

  2. Select all: We've added a "Select all" checkbox, allowing you to select all rules at once for import.

  3. Progress bar: Lastly, we’ve added a progress bar that shows how many rules have been imported and how many remain. This will help keep you informed about the status of your rule import.

Until next time!

If you’ve got any feedback or questions, please feel free to leave a comment. Happy automating!

Great news! I've had to use workarounds to catch when a comment is deleted but it's over.

Almost :/ It seems that automation rule is not triggered when a comment is deleted from a subtask. @Srini Chakravarthy, is it a known limitation?

Hi @Boldizsár Vermes

Thank you for trying this out and sharing the feedback. The trigger should work for comments deleted on stories, tasks, and sub-tasks. To enable this trigger to work for system-generated comments as well, you'll need to enable this checkbox in the rule configuration.

Can you try this and let us know if you are seeing any other issues?

Thank you!

@Srini Chakravarthy, I checked it again and it works now as it should—for subtasks too. Maybe I was too fast last time :)
