Now Migrating Archived Issues with the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant

Hello Everyone!

We are excited to announce the launch of new functionality to support the migration of Archived Issues in the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA).

Since we announced server end-of-support, my team has been committed to making migrating to the cloud smoother and more efficient. In the last 12 months, we’ve launched dozens of new capabilities to further these goals; most recently we added functionality to support migrating cross-project boards and filters, a significant milestone in our mission. Today, we're adding another milestone to that list - the ability to natively migrate your archived issues, maintaining their status as archived in the cloud.

Please note, that while support for migrating Archived Issues is available to all customers Archived Issues are only available to customers with an Atlassian Cloud Premium or Enterprise tier. See the following post to learn more about issue archival on the cloud through this announcement.

Here’s what to expect:

Migrating archived issues is available in JCMA version 1.10.16 or later. However, please note that migrating Archived issues will increase the total number of issues that JCMA must migrate, which may extend the time your migration plan will run.

Refer to the table for details on what can and cannot be migrated when using Archived Issues.

How to migrate Archived Issues using the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant

The Jira Cloud Migration Assistant now enables you to migrate Archived Issues as part of your project data. Here are the steps: 

Select your destination cloud site.

JCMA's Archived Issues migration is available only in the 'Choose what to migrate' option, not in the 'Migrate all at once' option.

Proceed to Choose your Migration Options screen, and Select your Projects.

Select "All" and then check mark Include archived issues. This will select all archived issues from your selected projects. Add the projects that you want to migrate.

Once you check for errors, review and run your migration.

As a customer, I really appreciate the hard work you and your team are doing to make the migration process even better.

This change will certainly save a lot of time since we now do not need to un-archive things just to migrate, but can leave things archived and still migrate it safely to our new cloud home.

Virtual high-fives to the whole team from me, and I hope there is plenty of cake to celebrate this change for everyone involved :)
