What to do when your trademark company name is already taken?

We have a client who wants to use their official trademarked corporate name as their Atlassian instance name.  Unfortunately, it has already been taken.  The name itself doesn't appear to have any connection, from what we can tell, to the other customer, but they are using it.

Given that it's been first come first serve with instance names, I can see this happening more and more, and maybe even abused by cybersquatters.

I'm curious, has anyone hit up against this problem and if so, how did you address it?

For large customers, Atlassian support have been known to help in these situations, but it’s really dependent on each customer and there’s no guarantee they can actually do anything.

As you said, their policy is first come first served. There are other policies that might be used to help tho, such as removing sites that haven’t been logged into for 90 days. Or cleaning up sites that don’t have any products attached to it.

Best thing is to reach out to Atlassian support and ask.
