✨ Atlas is evolving!

Back in 2022 we introduced a new product called Atlas, the first teamwork directory to help teams communicate better and allow organizations to connect the dots across their teams, apps, and work. But since our goal has always been to help as many teams as possible, we wanted to make Atlas even more accessible to Atlassian users everywhere.

That’s why we announced at the recent Team ‘24 that Atlas will be retired as a product, and its features will become the first of Atlassian’s Platform Experiences available to every Atlassian customer for free. That means no more product licenses to provision or user access to manage - if you have an Atlassian product in your workspace, you’ll be able to use goals, projects, teams, and topics and get an upgraded Atlassian Home experience.

This is just one of the major shifts toward focusing on connected experiences through the Atlassian Platform, creating a more unified system of work for all types of work. Building this connected platform of apps and tools will take time, but delivering goals, projects, teams, and topics in a centralized way is a major stepping stone toward connecting work across all of the tools and apps that teams use.

As of May 1st new Atlas workspaces can no longer be provisioned and over the coming months existing Atlas customers will be migrated from Atlas to the new Platform Experiences. If you’re reading this and aren’t an Atlas customer but would like to access Platform Experiences like goals or projects, you can do so with our early access program.

So what is actually changing?

In the short term (following 6~12 months):

• We’re retiring the Atlas brand. Atlas features will now be grouped under the new Platform Experiences in Admin Hub

• All Atlas features, including paid features, will be available for free to all Atlassian customers who have access to Platform Experiences

• Atlas can no longer be provisioned as a product. To access Atlas features you will have to opt in to the Platform Experiences early access program

• In the months following this announcement we’ll start migrating Atlas customers to Platform Experiences. Your organization admins will receive communication via email before we migrate your site

• The URL to access the usual screens you associate with Atlas will change from https://team.atlassian.com to https://home.atlassian.com

• Our plan is to add enterprise compliance that wasn’t previously available with Atlas. We will update this article whenever we add new certification to Platform Experiences.

In the long term:

• Stronger integrations between Platform Experiences features and your Atlassian products

• New Platform features and capabilities that will increase the connections between products, help teams share information, and improve how you work across Atlassian

• More upgrades to the Atlassian Home

What’s not changing?

Your data.

We’ll ensure that existing Atlas customers keep all the data they created in Atlas when migrating them to Platform Experiences.

You will still be able to create projects, goals, topics, and teams. You will have access to the different directories, be able to post updates, and receive weekly digests.

What do I need to do?

Nothing!

Over the coming months we’ll gradually be rolling out Platform Experiences to all Atlassian customers. As part of that rollout, we’ll also transition all Atlas workspaces to the new Atlassian Home experience.

During this transition you’ll maintain all your Atlas data. This includes any projects, goals, topics, updates, and anything else you created in Atlas.

IMPORTANT! You can’t opt a site into Platform Experience early access if it already has an Atlas workspace attached. We’ll be transitioning all Atlas workspaces to Platform Experiences so we recommend that you wait for the transition. You’ll get to keep all your existing Atlas data as part of this transition.

Note that during the early stages of the beta, there will not be a significant advantage to transitioning from Atlas to Platform Experiences early access program yourself.

FAQs

Q1. If I’m an existing Atlas customer do I need to opt in to the early access program to get the new Platform Experiences?

A1. No, we will migrate your Atlas to Platform Experiences in the months following this announcement.

Q2. When my Atlas is migrated to Platform Experiences, will I lose the data I created in Atlas like my goals and projects?

A2. Not at all! We’ll make sure to bring all your Atlas data to Platform Experiences

Q3. What if I’m a paying Atlas customer?

A3. By the time you’re reading this your billing admin would’ve received an email explaining the next steps. If you paid for an yearly subscription, you will receive credit for the remaining time in your plan. If you’re paying month-to-month we won’t bill you after April 30th.

Q4. I’m a regular Atlas user, will you be removing any features I might be using?

A4. No, all Atlas features will be migrated to Platform Experiences. You might see a different logo and no more mentions of Atlas but the core functionality will remain the same. Over time we will be adding to and improving these experiences.

Since this is transitioning into the "Platform", is there a timeframe the the standard and premium features will be available to the "Free" tier (mostly asking about the user roles and permissions), as well as the viewing capabilities of groups/teams of users.

What does this mean for existing Atlas permissions? If access to Atlas was limited, once migrated to PE will all users be able to see past goals and create new ones?
