Community Advisory Board Annual Report 2023

The Community Advisory Board was founded in 2017 to give our Community Leaders a stronger voice on the Atlassian Community team. Here is the update covering 2020, the 2021 report, and the 2022 report.  Once again, we are here to share a bit about this incredible group and take a look back at what they accomplished last year!

The CAB is made up of seven Community Leaders, representing different community cohorts including Atlassian Marketplace Partners, Atlassian Solutions Partners, Atlassian Community Events, and Online Community.

We also have one seat reserved for an Emeritus Member who hasn’t served on the CAB within the past few years. CAB members serve for up to two years and emeritus members for one calendar year.

Over the course of 2023, the following folks served on the CAB:

Our 2023 emeritus member was the one and only @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

\We had 11 CAB meetings in 2023, and attendees included representatives from Community Management and Social Care, Atlassian University, Community Support, Community Experience, Community Operations, Champion Programs, and the community executive leadership team. Some notable moments:

  • The CAB got a preview of the Atlassian Creators program during the planning stages and a sneak peek of the Team '23 experience for Community Leaders

  • Our partner leaders surfaced valuable feedback on Apptoberfest '23, which will help us iterate on future versions of the program

  • The CAB chatted with Community Support about ways to mitigate sensitive information being shared on the online community

  • We announced the merger of Atlassian Community and Atlassian University into one team, now called Atlassian Community and Learning

  • The Learning side of the house joined to get input on course naming

The CAB got to give input on many other community initiatives, including:

  • AI-generated answers on community and policies around AI

  • Adding icebreakers to Brandfolder for Atlassian Community Events
  • Events-a-Thon

  • The Orbiit matchmaking tool

  • The launch of Brandfolder for hosting Leader presentation decks and other content

  • Community bookmarks (and ideas for future improvements)

  • Possible designs for the hover over our community lozenges (still so cute):

As you can see, the Atlassian team relies on this board to help us ensure we’re meeting the needs of the community with everything we design, build, and create. Thank you, past, present, and future CAB members! 💙

As an "emeritus member", I could talk about a lot of things, but I do not want to bore you all.  There are two things I do want to say though:

  • It was great to meet the new members I had not met before
  • It was great to talk to our older members again

Two years of CAB duty passed by like a quick moment. Looking back, I feel grateful for being part of this group and proud that I spent time with these intelligent, engaging, and kind people.

Growing, learning, and contributing are some of the best achievements in life, and CAB has them all.

I'm just starting the second year of my term as a CAB member and can say from the inside that ALL user feedback is appreciated, noted, debated and discussed in the CAB.

We rely on the Atlassian Community - both Online and Events - to provide us feedback on the programs, experiences and direction of the Atlassian Community to continue to iterate and build the best community for our current and future members. I can attest that every member of the CAB is super passionate about creating an unparalleled user experience that is welcoming to all participants.

Please keep the lines of communication open and share your insights with us!
