User Limit includes System Administrator (sysadmin) user in ondemand version with 10 person limit

DavidT September 23, 2012

I have a 10 user license, so users are valuable to me. When I create users, the number shown always includes the System Administrator.

There are currently 8 total user(s) set up in JIRA, of which 8 are active and count towards your license limi...

I have removed sysadmin from users group and trolled the forums but can't find a solution. Why is this user taking up a seat when they aren't used by me?

Hi David,

The wording is a bit misleading, but the system administrator doesn't take up any license slots. The license is actually for eleven users, to take into account our sysadmin user. :)

This is more of a problem than "a bit misleading", as there are probably OnDemand subscribers who are jumping through hoops to stay below the limit they contracted and are aware of (in this case 10), when it sounds like you're saying their true limit is one higher - this "true limit" does not appear to be displayed anywhere in the UI.

Actually, if you take a look at the "Add User" screen, though it says you have 10 existing users, it will also say that you have a license remaining (next to the Application Access check boxes). The "Application Access" page will also verify this.

It seems they finished rolling out the temporary fix. The permanent fix will be implemented in the coming days. More info about the issue here here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/AOD/JIRA+OnDemand+Licensing+Issue+August+2013+Update

Too bad this now breaks all Add-Ons that require a matching user license. IE: Tempo no longer works because we don't have the 100,000 user licence. Thanks Atlassian.

We're still experiencing the issue. Do they go through every instance manually??

Alex Plutalov August 18, 2013

They say the process of rolling out the temporary fix is slower than they anticipated. Their last estimate was 15:30 CET but then, 2 hours ago, they notified us that rolling out the fix is still ongoing.

Yes, we've also got a temporary fix increasing number of users in the license up to 100000

@Alex, it was not my private ticket initially, I just found it in the overview when reporting my own ticket. I think they changed it now. Can imagine that a lot more users are creating tickets for this issue currently.

Alex Plutalov August 18, 2013

Yep, might be. In any case, i've got a reply on my own ticket saying pretty the same. So, waiting for solution.

Just for your information, they are working on the issues, as stated in this ticket:

Same here, we have a 25 user license, 26 users active, but one of the users is the 'sysadmin' user, so we should be fine. I'll also file a support ticket and try to workaround the issue by temporarily disabling one of our users.

Kind regards,

Erik

An update, I just disabled JIRA access for one of our users that is on holiday, but still the same happens, while we now have 24 'actual' users active and the sysadmin, adding up to 25 in total. Is there a bug in the user counting system?

Kind regards,

Erik

Hello,

Today we've got a problem with Jira On-Demand - it says that we exceed number of users. We have 11 users in total (one of them is sysadmin):

Please advise - we're unable to use the system now.

Eugene Ellansky August 18, 2013

The same for me - I have 15 licenses, there was no new users for 2 monthes, everything was OK 2 days ago - but suddenly today Jira started to tell me that I exceeded active licenses and can't create any new issue.

Weekend update went wrong?

Or it's a deliberate try to raise some funds for end-of-summer teambuilding party in Atlassian? )))
