How to add Confluence site wide labels?

Daniel Samuels September 17, 2012

Hi,

I seem to be having trouble adding labels that will apply to my entire Confluence site. I can add labels to one space (by adding them to a page), but they are not coming up (as autocomplete when typing a label) in other spaces.

I want to add labels that will be accessible from my entire Confluence site (all the spaces). Is this possible?

Did I, perchance, add them in the wrong place for them to be accessible site wide?

Thanks for any help,

D.

Hi Everyone,

I have been working on this issue with Atlassian for awhile now trying to find a solution and have just been told: there is no problem, this is how Confluence is meant to work.

Labels are space-specific, they were never designed to cross spaces and thus should not auto-suggest in other spaces.

I am sorry to have such a bad answer and I know that none of the Confluence docmentation mentions anything of the sort - to which I have made Atlassian aware.

Hopefully they will change this in an upcoming update.

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

Thanks. I am looking forward hearing from you. We have been up and running for only 4 months. I am new with Confluenec and I am trying to learn as much as I can and as soon as possible.

Cheers,

Selcuk

Hi Guilherme,

Are you sure that the labels are global? I checke dour labels and they don't appear on other spaces.

I check the document that you suggest whioch requires shutting down the server.

If we need to reindex it should be some other easy way.

Hey Sam,

Have you doine the reindexing? Did it solve the issue?

Cheers,

Selcuk

Yes, it is global. As said it might be an indexing issues or other issues with your instance. I'd check the logs for any errors.

Hi Selcuk,

I have not reindexed yet. I was kind of hoping for an easier way to do this as well. I will try and find some time next week to take down the enitre site, and report back on results.

Thanks,

Sam

Hello Sam,

Labels are always global. You can't create more than one label, even on different spaces. It could be that your Confluence is not correctly indexing its content. I would suggest performing a full reindex from scratch.

If the problem persist then I'd suggest to create a Support Ticket.

Cheers,

Guilherme

Hi Gulherme,

Thanks for the advice. I will have to try and find some down time to take down the enitre instance.

This is kind of dissapointing that this problem is coming up, as we have only been up and running for 2 months, but I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Sam
