Transition an issue to a certain workflow state after X number of days pass.

I would like to write a plugin/service/etc that moves issues that have been in a certain workflow status for a number of days to another workflow status, automatically. Typically we would set up a filter and do this by hand, but the number of issues and frequency it would need to be done would be just too time consuming for one person.

Does anyone know of any existing plugin that would do this? Or, what type of plugin/service/script/etc would be the best way to implement this?

It's pretty similar to what Atlassian do for their own support system. Luckily they've shown us how to do it as well. You'll need to have Jelly scripting enabled on your Jira instance.
