Workflow Status Display Question

Kyle Cianchette July 30, 2012

So I asked a question yesterday, and I think I was unclear. So I'm going to reask it in a way which is hopefully easier to understand.

I have two issues right now, which I believe are linked:

#1 When I am editting my workflow diagram, if I rename a status name, for example Sent to Production renamed to Sent to be Finalized, I change it in the status editor and hit save and done, and the changed status doesn't show that it has been changed in the workflow diagram. However, if I use the workflow, it shows the correct status.

#2 When I am in the middle of a workflow on an issue, and I click "View Workflow" (where you get the workflow popup), that workflow picture hasn't been updated, even if the workflow has been vastly altered.

How do I fix these issues?

I have created a New Feature request for the problem, please vote guys if you feel it is relevant.

Hey, remember that you're talking about two things. The status and the step. When you view your workflow you only see the name of the step (which is associated with a status). On the view issue screen you see the status, not the step.

Hope that helps,

Cheers Christian

Try restarting your server. Sometimes changes get reflected once you transition to another status... Try that aswell

Hi there,

i don't know if your JIRA has some issues so i'll just try to give you an general explanation to change status names and transitions on JIRA workflows.

  1. Before you can edit an assigned workflow you have to create a draft

When the draft is created you're allowed to edit existing transitions. For editing a status you have to change the whole workflow. Therefore you just copy a existing workflow to make sure that its completly unassigned.

So now you're allowed to edit the whole workflow without any restrictions. In my case I want to change the status from "Closed" to "Finished".

  • Step one is to add a new "linked status". Therefore I go to Issues -> Statuses scroll down and just add another status named "Finished"

  • After you created your new status go back to the copy of your workflow. So I know that I want to exchange the "Closed" status. So I click on "Edit" to change the name and linked status

  • So now you can change the "Step Name" and the "Linked Status"

If you also want to change a transition you have to click on the transition you want to edit. In my case ill change the transition "Reopen Issue" to "Open again"

So now you're allowed to change the "Transition Name" by clicking on "Edit this transition".

If you finished everything you have to migrate your new workflow into the old one. Therefore you have to switch to the "Workflow Shemes" copy your old sheme or create a new one and assign your new workflow

So now we have changed a status and a transition on a "existing" workflow. The last step is to assign the new Workflow Scheme to your project. Therefore we switch into "Projects" -> "Your Project" -> "Workflows"

Then you click on "Actions" -> Use a different scheme"

Select your new scheme and click on associate

Now JIRA wants to migrate existing statuses from the old workflow scheme to the new one, make sure that you choose the correct one for each old status. And don't forget to read the note!!!

Which leads us to:

Now your status and transition should be updated :D

Well ... while writing this explanation I found out about your problem ^^ so ... if you just edited a workflow and add some new status your workflow designer will show the old one!!!

And trust me this is totally no cache thing (I used two different browser and another computer)Even if you click on refresh there is no updated status, and it still shows the old workflow.

I'll restart my JIRA now to see if anything will change.

Regards,

Wilhelm

So JIRA finished restarting, and it still shows the old statuses. I also tried refreshing again. Seems to be an issue! I'm using JIRA 5.0.5.

Wilhelm
