Will importing data from hosted jira to jira ondemand overwrite all existing issues?

Kent Vilhelmsen May 30, 2012

All data in our installed Jira have procject keys (i.e. "OPS-", "IT-", "ADMIN-") that do not exist in our Jira OnDemand instance.

I want to import Jira-issues from our own installation to the OnDemand instance, but need to know if ALL content in OnDemand will be overwritten.

As Jobin said, yes all content will be overwritten.

Just for the record, I believe that the best course of action here - seeing that you want to transfer all data from your local instance to OnDemand - would be to:

  1. Install a third JIRA local instance - latest version
  2. Export/import all data from OnDemand instance into the new instance (Step 1).
  3. Export all data from the old local JIRA instance and perform project imports into the new local JIRA (Step 1). Both local JIRA instances must be on the exact same version.
  4. After that, take a full backup of the new JIRA instance (which now contains all data from both instances) and import back into OnDemand.
