Show only Current Parent/Child on Sidebar?

Melissa C January 30, 2017

Hello Everyone,

Can any one shed some light on how do we display the Parent and Children of the current page on .

I played with some Macro code and was able to show the parent/children expanded and collapse the others.

We want to hide the other and just show the current Parent and children. The reason we would like to do this is because we have a number of documents in our space and some users may get overwhelmed but seeing so many listed. We also want use to know that a particular page is a parent or is a child of a parent.  Displaying parent/child on the sidebar will always show a user this.

Thanks Rodney! Great Insight!

The requirement is that you only see the current parent/children. When the user wants to see other parents they would have to search using the search box. They would always go back to the search box. We probably will add another page that will have an Index of all of the parents that they can look at glance.

Thanks for the feed back greatly appreciated!

These sorts of things are never right for everyone!!

And consider what is showing when the User is on the "Test Child" page .. it will only show its Parent "Test" so it becomes a pain to have to repeatedly click upwards so they can go back down again.

The latest version of Confluence handles the navigation pane a bit differently to previous versions (and I don't really like the new way myself)

Have a look here at my system on one of my public Home pages https://ideology.atlassian.net/wiki/x/AgBv

then one of its Child pages : https://ideology.atlassian.net/wiki/x/CgBbAQ

and one of the "grandchild" pages: https://ideology.atlassian.net/wiki/x/EwBPAQ

But you can also set up a <<Page Tree>> macro which has some settings to allow the User to "Expand All"

But you may need a specialist developer to change the behaviour for your system

You may want to show us a screen capture of what you are seeing on your screen.

Normally Confluence shows the current page, its Parent and its "Brother/Sister" pages - how many Brothers./Sisters depends on the version you are using.  The Child pages are indicated by the ">" chevron which you click to expand.
