What is the keyboard shortcut to check a checkbox in Confluence?

Wilfrid (old) November 16, 2016

I love check boxes and keyboard shortcuts.

I often write hierarchies of boxes for subtasks, and check the sub-tasks I completed.

I would like to be able to do this while editing their content, with a keyboard shortcut or editor automation.

How can I do it?

Hi wip,

The task list checkbox is not part of the tab flow in View mode, and it can't be selected/highlighted in Edit mode.

Therefore unfortunately there are no keyboard shortcuts for checking or unchecking a Confluence task list item, either in View mode or in Edit mode.

Thank you for the information Rob. Would you happen to know if Confluence has a page for suggestions, or similar?

In JIRA, you can use the tab button to move through fields until you highlight the checkbox, then you can use spacebar to check/uncheck.

See: https://i.giphy.com/3o7TKTAOAf1mUo4gTe.gif for an example of this in action.

Hope this helps.

Sam

**Edited answer to make clear this works for JIRA, but is not the answer for Confluence**

Thank you for your reply. However, I would like to be able to use such a shortcut during the Edit mode of a Confluence page.

When pressing Tab in a Confluence Page in Edition mode, the text gets tabulated (moved) to the right, but the selection does not change.

Ah. Sorry - I assumed JIRA. I see now you've added the 'Confluence' label : )

I have a question actually, not sure this is the right forum but here goes:

In JIRA Portfolio we have a schedule. We update the Schedule, Commit the change and subsequently the associated Jira ticket gets updated.  What about the reverse, i.e. we log work against a Jira ticket and let's say that ticket is now completed.  Does Portfolio in turn now automatically get updated as well?

Hi Susan,

It's probably better to post your question as a new question using this link.

Or ask via the Portfolio for JIRA Help Centre.

Hi Susan,

Sam's right, but I've got a Portfolio guru sat a short distance away, and he says that yes, it works both ways automatically.  As he put it: "It wouldn't be much use if it didn't." smile

You should still post this in a JIRA/Portfolio forum for more detailed feedback though.
