Hi

I have a simple question around the drop-down associated to issue assignee during issue creation following an upgrade from 4.4.x to 5.0.1

My internal user community is reporting that on version 4.4.x, the dropdown used to display a list of "remembered assignees", which was then followed by a full list of all assignable users in the Jira Project. The functionality in 5.0.1 now only shows a drop down showing the list of "remembered assignees", there is no full list of all assignable users. That said, you can still type in the name and the assignable user will appear. I think my user community is struggling as they may not always recall the assignee name instinctively, and wld preferably like to select from a drop down list.

My question is: can the full list of assignable project users be displayed into the drop down functionality (via configuration), or is this simply how JIRA 5.x is intended to work? Is it possible i missed a step during the upgrade from 4.4x -> 5.0.1?

Any insight into the intended functionality/capability would be most welcome.

Thanks

Gavin.

Thanks - I could not see a support incident raised by you but I did find, and voted on, this one: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-27396

Hey Sam, here's the response i got back from Atlassian.

Hi Gavin,

You are exactly right that what you are seeing is intended functionality in JIRA v5. I was just writing an explanation of this for you but the bug report you have discovered explains it perfectly [https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-27396]. Therefore I would suggest that if you feel this functionality should be improved upon then please watch/vote/comment on the bug report so that our developers are made aware of your feelings and you remain updated with progress on the discussion surrounding this issue.

All the best,
John

Look at this forum, I had the same problem and a fix is here. Users will require permission to browse user, that's it and the drop-down will should up.

The odd thing is, everyone does have the "global browse" permission. I get a drop down, *but* all i see in the drop down is a "suggestions" listing (i.e. recently used resources), but i nolonger see within that drop down a full list of assignable project resources. i think i'll open a support case with Atlassian, just to see whether this is "normal".

Thanks fo rthe feedback - much appreciated!!

Interesting because the same question came up a few times last week itself. See if you have the 'Browse Users' permission.

Hi Jobin. thanks for the quick feedback. I can confirm that all users are members of a group "jira-users" and this group is a member of the global permission "Browse Users". Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think this is the cause. Like i said, i can find the assignees in the drop-down if i start to type their name (i.e. context type search/result) - it's just they are not present in the drop-down when it is first "dropped" down.

Do you agree?

I see what you mean! Yes, in the initial dropdown it only shows the "remembered assignees". If you just type a letter, it will start showing all. Works for me!

thanks for clarifying that. I guess my user community is having issues/difficulty around remembering assignees names - and i tend to agree with them - as we're an organisation spread over 3 offices covering 3 continents, so sometimes names of assignees for specific projects may escape the issue creator. It wld be good if the old style of initial drop-down display was retained, i.e. showing the remembered assignees (for speedy selection) and listing all assignees (for the project) as a subsequent section in the drop-down listing.

Thanks Jobin, Browse Users global permissions worked for me

Hi All,

There is a KB article related to this. See How to fully render assignee drop-down list in JIRA.

Cheers!

At some point in the last couple years they changed the default user group from jira-users to users or maybe it was users to jira-users.  I don't know.

What I DO know is that they didn't bother to migrate accounts when they made the change and so this keeps coming back to bite me.  My JIRA ondemand instance has both groups in use in various places.  I don't have the time or energy to mess with it...but it often causes issues like this.

I am an admin but I couldn't filter issues in issue search by Assignee except for CurrentUser or unassigned.  Checking global perms showed once again the jira-users/users issue strikes again.

I am seeing the same issue. Is there some configuration option I am missing?
