Steps to remove a user from Private room?

Hi Kevin.

You'll have to be an admin or a room admin to do this.

The easiest way to remove someone from a private room:

1. Go to the Room Actions option in the HipChat web or desktop app (it looks like or ).
2. Click Remove People.
3. Select the person you'd like to remove from the room.
4. Click Ok.

Another way to remove someone from a private room:

1. Log into HipChat in your browser.
2. Go to the Rooms tab. Find the appropriate room.
3. Click Permissions > Edit member list. Deselect the person you want to remove.
4. Click Save.

If you don't have these options, you may not have room admin or higher permissions.

I am the room admin (in bold) but I when I click the Remove people option, nothing happens.  Using Chrome and Firebox on OSX.

Second option works.
