Hi there,

I'm creating a new feature that implies sending e-mail notifications, I'm developing for JIRA Cloud.

So, I need to know if  there is any JIRA Cloud API to send e-mails or if is it possible to get the e-mail configuration from JIRA?

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Rui Rodrigues.

Hi Rui,

As I mentioned in the previous question that you linked:

And it is highly unlikely that we (the Atlassian Connect) team will allow this in the future. My own add-on (My Reminders) uses Mailgun to send emails to great success.

This is because, if Atlassian Connect allowed add-ons to send emails as JIRA, then the actions of one bad add-on could cause email spam filters everywhere to block all emails from Atlassian Products and add-ons alike. This is highly undesirable.

Thus, a better solution is to require every add-on to integrate with their own mail service. I highly recommend Mailgun as it is free for the lower tiers and grows with you. I use it for my add-ons.

That said, if you still want to petition for JIRA to send your emails for you then please raise an issue at: ecosystem.atlassian.net/browse/AC

There's no way to send emails from a JIRA Cloud add-on. You would need to provide your own mail server.

I've found this answer: https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/39788500 but it's not clear.
