Customizing the global dashboard

MPal Pal February 23, 2012

I am trying to change the look and feel of the global dashboard as the site admin. So I navigated to

Confluence Admin -> Layouts under Look and feel -> Edit (Global Layout)

I am not technically savvy, so do you have some tutorials showing me how to edit this long code segment to add in the stuff I want? Please help

Thanks

I am trying to customize the dashboard, or at least learn about it. The above link does provide some guidance but doesn't explain how to actually get to the point where you can make the changes described. Just an observation.

You may want to try our Custom Dashboards add-on for Confluence, which allows you to replace the default dashboard of Confluence with a custom one defined on a wiki page. There you can use any content or macro you like. Here's an example dashboard:

Hope this helps

This is one thing that really irritates me about Confluence and Jira.  You take basic functionality that you know everyone wants and you try to nickel and dime us all to death by selling it to us.  Why in the world should I have to pay for a plug in only to be able to change the dashboard?  This is ridiculous.  I can easily change the dashboard in Jira, why did you make Confluence so dumb?

First of all, this forum sucks. No attempts to answer my question.

I searched and found this blog very helpful. I am sharing for anyone who has a similar problem: http://kylealbert95.wordpress.com/2011/05/31/customizing-your-confluence-dashboard/

If you ask questions on a friday night, it is very likely that a lot of people don't read it before monday. But if you think, this forum sucks, I think, you will never get an answer.

@MPal Pal , that was a bit harsh. At least if you see the home page of Answers, it says

"9761 Questions, 13146 Answers"

So it can't be that bad, right?
