You've been so helpful and I really appreciate it.  We're very leery about enabling macros due to vulnerability but about your second suggestion: "Adding the code to the site's custom html in the at beginning of the body area."  I've googled it and I'm unable to see where to add it.  any chance you can send me a screen shot or a couple steps of instructions?  much appreciated

wow!  thank you!  I don't see the option to add an html macro into my pages.  do I need to purchase a special html add on to use an html macro?

As long as you are running Confluence Server, then you have access to the HTML macro, but you have to enable it as it is disabled by default.

The code can also be added to the site's Custom HTML in the At beginning of the BODY area.

Just for funsies, I added Google website translation to our test instance, and it worked perfectly.

Just follow the instructions, and in the end, copy the code and paste it into an HTML macro on each page you want translatable.
