How to allow the editing of a field in Issue Detail View?

Kathleen Shafer August 26, 2014

Hi,

I am trying to make a custom field editable from the Issue Detail view. Similar to the Description detail, where you can hover over it so that the pencil icon appears and then easily make an edit there without opening up the entire ticket. Or, can you add a button like with Comment, where you click the Comment button to edit that way. Either way is fine, I just want to be able to make the fields editable.

All you need to do is make sure the field is included in the Edit screen for the project/issue type (In the issue type screen schemes for the project)

Hi, thank you for the quick response. Can you humor me and walk me through this? The field I want is there, but I can't edit it from Issue Detail View in Work mode.

Ah, hang on, do you mean in Agile? You're working from a board, not the issue detail view in standard Jira?

Yes, an Agile. Sorry not to clarify!

No problem.

However, it does mean they can't be edited in that way. My advice enables the inline edit in the main issue view, but not Agile. I think there's a feature request for that.

Ok, thank you! If you are able to find the feature request, I'll vote it up.

I am trying to do the same thing, only in the details in Jira.. When I look at an issue, when I hover over "Affects Version" the pencil shows up... When i do this over the Resolution, there isn't the pencil. I tried what I thought was the correct areas, but did't see an option for this.. ? can you point where this is done? thank you.

The original answer applies - if you want to edit a field inline, you have to have it on the "edit" screen. However, you *must not put the resolution on an edit screen*. If you do that, then when anyone edits an issue they will set the resolution, and that's wrong. If you need to edit a resolution, then you should either re-open and re-close the issue, setting the right resolution, or you should amend your workflow to include transitions to the same status that have the resolution on screen for you to update.

It looks like we might have good news on the horizon for this feature-request: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/GHS-7893
