What does "Enable Atlassian Answers" exactly mean?

When managing our add-on listing on the Marketplace, we can choose to "Enable Atlassian Answers". This is a checkbox which has the following label:

"Enable users to ask and receive answers from members of the Atlassian Answers community."

I'd like to know what this means exactly. As far as I can tell, anyone can ask questions on Atlassian Answers. Does this checkbox, for example, add a label for our add-on?

Thanks,
Maarten

It's pretty much what I think you are expecting.

If you tick the box, it adds a link to the add-on's page to say "ask a question on answers".  The link is slightly more clever than just a link, it does indeed dump you on a "new question" page, with pre-set label as the key of your add-on.

And it's up to you if you bother looking at the questions :-) I find that RSS feeds from a.a.c are the easiest way to watch people, topics or some mixture. Formatting works pretty well on my iphone

Ah thank you both so much, I didn't even think of the marketplace listing itself. It makes total sense now. Somehow I thought there would be a link in JIRA itself. I'm going to look into the RSS feed, we don't want to miss out on any questions users might have.

Good to hear! A lot of vendors don't subscribe to their own add-on labels (or if they do, they don't respond to the questions), and we end up with a lot of questions which just hang around for days until someone realises and says "looks like the vendor is ignoring you, have you contacted them directly". Most of them are "When will this work for Cloud" or "when will it work for the version Atlassian released 20 seconds ago because I upgraded and its broken", neither of which are particularly fair questions because the answers are "Atlassian generally won't add more type-2 addons" and "when I get a chance". But it's frustrating that they go unanswered, so it's really nice to have a vendor say they want to listen!

We're doing everything we can to help our users out and learn from them, but if you hadn't answered this question I wouldn't have known that this was possible. I'm sure that a lot of developers are still in the dark about these options. We're currently only on Cloud, so if the most asked question is about a Cloud version, we might get questions about a Server version. Anyhow, we will keep an eye out and hopefully learn from our users' questions. Our plan is to update our knowledge base and website according to the most asked questions.

Just what us users want from a vendor! Thank you! :-)

Did you guys find a way to subscribe to the RSS feeds of add-ons that don't have any questions yet? I'm trying to use Mailchimp and ChimpFeedr to automatically receive an email when someone asks a question about one of our add-ons. It seems to work for add-ons that we know the RSS feed url of, but when there are no questions yet, I don't have access to the RSS feed url. In case anyone is interested in doing the same, you can find Mailchimp at www.mailchimp.com and ChimpFeedr at www.chimpfeedr.com. They're both free to use.
