Service account without email is unable to authenticate in Jira

Rakesh Bagul October 13, 2015

Hi,

We have JIRA connected to Crowd and Crowd is connected with LDAP. Recently we have added svc_xxx account from LDAP-Crowd to Jira. We can see svc_xxx account in JIRA users. However we are not able to login or authenticate using this svc_xxx account in Jira. Only thing I see different in this user account is that it is not associated with any email address.

Does email field is mandatory for all JIRA users?

We tried to add email to this account in Jira, but it is showing errors as not permitted.

We tried to add email address and first name to this account in Crowd. It is showing "javax.naming.NoPermissionException".

Is there any way we can use svc_xxx account in JIRA successfully?

Thanks,

Rakesh

Yes, you should give it an email address, ideally that of the owner of the account.  It sounds like Crowd does not have the access required to LDAP to make that change though - you'll need to do it in LDAP.

Any alternate option available for this?

As our service account doesn't comes with an Email address and we might require this service account for JIRA access.
