Why are Kanban boards not part of JIRA Core? Kanban boards are highly useful for all types of projects, not just software...

All my JIRA projects use Kanban boards as a primary user interface for all users. I see no use cases where I would want to set up JIRA without Kanban boards. The Kanban method and Kanban boards are just as useful for business projects as for software development projects. Kanban boards for business projects should preferably be free from any software jargon and hard-coded software-specific behavior. With the announcement of JIRA 7 Software, it seems that JIRA Agile boards may become even more software-specific in future releases.

Having to go for the full JIRA Software license just to get Kanban boards available in business projects is far from ideal. Higher cost is just one reason. Added complexity for users from seeing irrelevant software features and terminology is more important.

Along with many others, I have previously requested more flexible configuration options for JIRA Agile boards, in particular more dynamic filters. 

Please consider adding a generic, flexible Kanban board as part of JIRA Core, or at least as an add-on.

There's loads of use-cases for JIRA without Kanban.  But, you're absolutely spot-on - they're so useful for everything it's a crying shame that there isn't an implementation in Core (and I've regularly suggested to plain JIRA users that they get Agile for Scrum for a couple of teams and "oh, you'll find Kanban is great for everyone")

Wait....JIRA Core doesn't have Kanban boards!!! Deal breaker.  I'll be sticking with "normal" JIRA until a Kanban solution is implemented.

From what I read so far about JIRA Core, it is assumed that so called 'business users' will use JIRA Core mainly as the workflow tool. And it is ok, as being able to design specific workflows is one of the strengths of JIRA. However, being able to visually summarise the status of all issues currently in the "flow"- and Kanban board is the best for it - in my opinion is absolutely a must-have for business users too. I guess, sooner or later someone will develop an add-on for Kanban boards.

It is the end of 2020 - there is an elementary Kanban board, but besides depicting all the status columns and the ability to change the sequence of the status columns, there is no way to configure the the "so-called-board". Cannot apply filters or hide a status column.

Come on @Atlassian it is 5 years that your user community begs for a proper kanban board - PLEASE implement a proper one!

Honestly, I started JIRA Core evaluation because I had mistakenly thought it contained Kanban board for visualising the workflow. Since it's missing, I can stop the evaluation right away. Yay, time saved.

In year 2100 probably Kanban boards will hijack Atlassian constellation and Jira Core will be free to have Kanban boards too.

This is unacceptable. Jira Core users should be able to view a simple Kanban Board with multiple projects. So for now, I'm a Software and a Core user, and I share it with everyone in our daily business project standup. Sure would be nice to see them view this board at their own desks.

I ran a massive JIRA system at CSIRO, and used upwards of 80 board are our main tool - a complete matter management system. Our user did nearly nothing on Dashboards; everything was either at Issue Level or via the Boards. Just bought a yearly licence for a JIRA Core at a new company, sold it to them on the Boards... Didn't really bother with the evaluation of CORE as I know how fantastic the boards are...

Many thanks for your feedback - this is great feedback just after the release, and it's super encouraging for our team.

When we evaluated which parts of JIRA Agile should be part of JIRA Core, we did hear from quite a few customers that they use Kanban and Scrum boards within their business teams. However, when we looked into the details on how these teams work with the boards, it became apparent that the existing Agile boards were really just a workaround for most teams. Some of the software specific functionality had no application for business teams at all. We felt that simply adding them to business projects wouldn't help us build the exceptional experience we wanted to deliver to business teams. Some of the Atlassian Marketplace add-ons make a great substitute though.

We are, however, aware that a more visual approach to viewing issues and workflows can make business teams more productive. We're currently investigating how business teams prefer to visualise their work, and what functionality needs to be a key part of the JIRA Core experience. Our goal is to deliver this as soon as possible. We would be more than happy to hear from you about how boards fit into the bigger picture of your business teams' needs.

Hey folks, in 2016 you actually added boards to the cloud version of Core. But still today it is not in the on-premise version. What's the reasoning behind that? Obviously the user base sent you all the right messages and you added the feature to core-cloud. But companies that use on-premise versions don't have the same needs as cloud users???
