ScriptRunner 3.0 and Scripted JQL Functions - will legacy functions be supported?

Rick Trudeau April 20, 2014

This question is more or less directed right at Jamie Echlin, but if anyone else knows the answer plus chime in.

I see on the ScriptRunner "Upgrading to 3.0" page (https://jamieechlin.atlassian.net/wiki/display/GRV/Upgrading+to+3.0) the following details about Scripted JQL Functions:

"The ability to add your own scripted JQL functions has been removed in this release. Very few people used that. This will be replaced by something better in the future."

The questions I have are:

1) Will the existing set of canned issueFunctions continue to be supported? Many of them are quite useful.

2) Does this just mean that the UI for creating new Scripted JQL functions will be removed, or does it also mean that any legacy Scripted JQL functions that I have already created will also no longer work? As you probably guessed, we have developped several customized Scripted JQL functions that we've grown quite dependent on, so I'm trying to understand if these are something we will need to abandon if we move to ScriptRunner 3.0.

Thanks, and great plugin.

Rick -

1) The currently shipped functions are staying, with some fixes and one or two additional functions.

2) I have written some instructions for what is required for people with their own custom jql functions: https://jamieechlin.atlassian.net/wiki/display/GRV/Breaking+Changes+for+Custom+JQL+Functions+in+3.0

I'm not sure, it might seem a little overwhelming but it should be doable. I recommend using a proper IDE though, like Intellij IDEA, if you are making substantial changes.

You can download beta-4 which has this functionality from https://jamieechlin.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/viewpageattachments.action?pageId=33619976

Let me know (here ideally) if you have any problems.

Thanks Jamie. Looks do-able.

Its unlikely I will be giving this a try anytime soon, so you're not likely to get feedback from me in the near-term. But its something essential to consider in my future upgrades.

Hi Rick... I was just working on that right now so very timely question. In fact I was just going to write the docn, so if you don't mind I will update this question with a link to that when I'm done, and then you can come back here if anything is unclear.
