Automatic sub-task creation in Jira On Demand

Kevin Rowley April 15, 2014

I often need to create the same set of 4 or 5 sub-tasks and associate them with a Story. In On Demand, is there a recommended way of automating or semi-automating this process? With the download Jira there is a plug-in out there but it is not available in On Demand. So, is there another way of accomplishing this in On Demand other than manually creating one sub-task at a time?

I found Sub Task Manager for JIRA Cloud. With this plugin you can:

  • Create a template list of subtasks
  • Make a copy of the template, alter it and then save it for future use
  • In the templates you can add summary, description, priority, due date
  • In the templates you can add dues dates that auto populate depending on when you actually create the subtasks
  • In the templates you can add a description for each subtask and it supports JIRA Text Formatting
  • You can have many different templates saved.

From an automation perspective, you can use JIRA Command Line Interface. How to create projects or sets of issues based on a template has some more information.

In the future,
Create on Transition for JIRA will have OnDemand support. Please vote for CSOT-136.

Thanks for the tip. Will give that a try.
