Rename Zephyr issue type

Eldon Wong January 15, 2014

We have an existing issue type called "Test" in JIRA. Is it possible to use a different name for Zephyr? Maybe "Zephyr Test"? If so, how do I do that? I tried to rename the "Test" issue type created, but Zephyr didn't seem to recognize it and I think it actually went ahead and created a new "Test" issue type.

So now in our system we have 3 issue types:

  • Test (the one we had)
  • Zephyr Test (the "Test" Zephyr created, but I renamed)
  • Test (a new one that seems to have been automatically created again by Zephyr)

Hi Eldon,

Currently there is not a way to rename isuse type Test to something else. It needs to stay as issue type Test. If you try to change it to something else, it will lose the funtionality Zephyr for JIRA has to offer such as the ability to create test steps.

Kind Regards,

Emily

That's too bad that it's so restrictive. But thanks for your answer.

Can a future version of Zephyr be more accommodating? :)

It seems way too easy to hose a Zephyr installation, either by accident or on purpose.

Hello Emily,

Accidentally the Issue type "Test" was removed by one of the Admin of our Jira instance.

I would like to know if there is a procedure to restore the original state of the Add-On or I should Uninstall and Re-Install it?

Thanks,
Julien

When I renamed "Test" to "Zephyr Test", it seemed like the next time I restarted JIRA, the new "Test" issue came up. So maybe try restarting JIRA?

Hi Eldon,

You should probably delete any of the other Issue types that do not create an actual Zephyr test. It can become very confusing if you have too many Test issue types in the drop down, but only one of them works.

I am not 100% sure if you can change the issue type name. What I can tell you is this; the issue type Test is a standard JIRA issue type. It is just like a Bug or a Task or any other JIRA isssue type. This means that it will follow the same rules as any other JIRA issue type. If you can change Bug to say something else but still function as a bug, then you will be able to change Test to say something else and function as a Zephyr Test.

I think you can do this from the JIRA Administration page, but you may want to check with Atlassian. If you navigate to Administration>Issues>Issue Types, you will see all of your JIRA issue types. Next to each issue type is an "Edit" option. Here I believe, you can change the name of the issue type to say something else.

Kind Regards,

Emily
