I've a Space named "Webges Custom Solutions" but its name should be just "Custom Solutions". How can i rename it? Or can you do this for me?

Thanks, Endre

As discussed here: https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/29396/rename-space

"Browse to the space in question, then click on Browse | Space Admin. Change the space name in the resulting "Edit Space Details" page. The name change will also appear on the dashboard."

Same problem here.
My solution: After you browsed to the space and click on Space tools->Overview. Then click on "Edit Space Details".

Joe: one Confluence theme has Space tools button below on left side, other theme has button Browse on top.

If you have button Space tools > Overview > Space details > Edit Space Details

If you have button Browse > Space Admin > Edit Space Details

Theme can be changed Space tools > Look and Feel > change from Global Look and Feel on

You have these steps:

  • Go to Spaces , select and click on the space that you like rename
  • On the left go to Space Configuration or Settings for a space
  • Click on Edit Space Details

After renaming my space, everything seems to have disappeared. When I browse the space, all the pages are missing from the sidebar...

This is way more complicated than it should be. I hope at some point Atlassian focuses on UI/UX to create a more intuitive and at the very least consistent interface. The fact that there is no one right answer to this question is a red flag for unnecessary complexity. After reading all of this, it still isn't apparent to me how to change the name of my space.

All of the answers are taking you to the same place.  Space Admin -> Edit space name.

It's not going to get "more intuitive".  What's "more intuitive" than having "space admin -> edit space name"?

"All of the answers are taking you to the same place.  Space Admin -> Edit space name. "

No then aren't, ex:

"If you have button Space tools > Overview > Space details > Edit Space Details

If you have button Browse > Space Admin > Edit Space Details"

and after having read that solution I still don't see space tools or browse. As for saying 'it won't get "more intuitive"' absolutes like that are almost always (see what I did there) wrong and typically perceived as dismissive by others (like myself in this case). A common way to change a name would be to click on that name. That seems more intuitive to me. Probably a simpler solution is to standardize where the space options are located across themes and have consistent labeling. Also I'm assuming I'm the admin of this space because I created it, but I'm not sure if that's what I can't edit the name because I can't inform the UI that I want to edit the name which would either be because I don't see the Space Tools menu or it could be because I'm not an admin. The fact that you have prior knowledge/experience about the workings of this software might leave you feeling like this is just a dumb user. My suggestion would be that dumb users make great testers for intuitiveness. Please respond if you have a way for me to actually resolve my problem. Otherwise I plan on ignoring your response.

No, you're right, sorry, there are a couple of ways to get there.  Nonetheless, the point is still that the option is intuitively in the right place, under "settings for a space", you can change the name.  Where would be more intuitive?

But, you're also commenting on a thread that's two years old and things have moved on and changed.  So "Probably a simpler solution is to standardize where the space options are located across themes and have consistent labeling." - that doesn't need doing because they are already in the same place.  It's the user's choice to pick up a theme that changes that, Atlassian can't be expected to lock down other people's themes.

>I still don't see space tools

You don't have space admin rights, or your theme is hiding it.  You've already implied that you understand that, so I'm really not sure what else I can tell you.

Ask your Confluence Admin to change the theme for your space. I have seen sometimes the default theme doesn't show Space admin menu.

I'm having the same problem as Joe Murray.  Does anyone know the answer?

I'm having same problem, but after browsing to space I don't see a Browse menu item anywhere. My user has full permissions, but I only am able to navigate to Site Administration page, but can't find the Browse or Browse | Space Admin menu items.

You can rename a space on the space admin section (as long as you've admin rights over the space)
