Jira translation - Latin

MarkoR December 30, 2013

Hello folks,

I have a question regarding jira translation packs. I have requirement to translate my jira installation to Serbian language. Naturally i wen to atlassian translations but there was only Cyrillic language pack sr_RS. How to name the property files so jira treats them as Latin translation (or it is some parameter in plugin xml file)? I tried with sr_RS_latin and it didn't work.

Ofcourse i could download English default pack and rename it to en_RS and start translating but in user profile > chose language i would see something like Serbian (English) which does not make any sense.

Thank you in advance, kind regards.

It looks like to create a new language translation from scratch from translations.atlassian.comyou need to contact atlassian to add it.

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/TRANS-683

This same issue also refers you to the development language module documentation as well, but the suggested way was to download an existing language pack and start modifying.

Since Jira is written with Java, I would use the Java's notation for defining the locale.

Maybe changing Jira'a locale would also help getting the Serbian latin alphabet to display correctly. Hopefully, then the in product translation plugin would do what you need. I thought translations.atlassian.comhad a way to set the locale when you start a new translation, but I do not see a way to do that anymore.

Does this help out? It is from the marketplace.

Dear Norman,

As i mentioned in question, i have already tried to use translation from atlassian translations (plugin that you have linked) but its using Serbian Cyrillic alphabet and I need Latin version. I will translate it myself no problem, but I just need help how to create property file properly so it doesn’t use Cyrillic. File named like sr_RS automatically changes things like months in dates to Cyrillic.

Kind regards.

I am not sure if this will help or not, but did you look at the inproduct translation plugin?
