This new update destroyed a few of my views, mainly my production view. We used to use status categories as a way to make it easy to visually notice certain statuses of issues that are in development - if an issue's status was "blocked" then there would be a big red stop sign next to it, or if it's ready for deployment, we'd use green. These two distinctions were important because we don't want to have anything red or green (because if an issue is blocking something, we need to resolve it ASAP, and if it's ready for deployment, it needs to go out at the end of the day). Now basically everything is yellow because we don't display resolved issues in the view and have very few open issues.
Is there a way to add a status category to the three defaults? Or is there now some other thing associated with a workflow that can display these differences?
I second this question/request. JIRA was always lacking status colors that are so important in some environments to quickly see specific issue groups, like Brendan describes above. The newly introduced status categories would really help if there were a way to add your own and color them individually.
Agreed. This feature feels like it was a half-way implementation or not completely thought through. I would hope that Atlassian has plans to implement color configuration soon.

Does anyone know if there is an issue in the tracker we can vote on for this? I will add my vote. Status colors that we can define would add to visualiztion nicely.

You can do the same with my plugin:

@Raul Pelaez Thank you for providing a plugin to color statuses.
Do you know of anything equivalent for the Transition buttons at the top of an issue?

Yes there is a ticket for this feature. Please vote on it. I agree this is needed badly. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-36241

Hi,
We have just upgraded one of our instances and haven't yet found a way of changing the list Category options. The change appears to be due to the introduction of the Atlassian Design Guidelines for JIRA, so can only assume that this is still a work in progress.
@Zaridan, there is an open issue in Atlassian's JIRA that appears to be relevant to this question.
There may be a way of reverting back to the old style and/or having the ability to change the colours by way of development the jira.enabled.dark.features advaned configuration option, but haven't discovered anything yet.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
The Web Team
