team member with several roles

Toni Delgado August 5, 2015

We use Tempo portfolio and in a project we have team members with several roles.
Our webdesigners are also front-end developers and at the moment I cannot get a team member twice.
The reason for this question is that we wanna split the cost on design and implementation in order to have full controll of were we put our hours. At the moment I can only see what one team memeber is doing as designer, although half of it is front-end.

Is there a way to split these so that we can get more accurate numbers from Tempo?

Hi Toni,

You are right, Tempo Folio does not support, in its current version, a team member with multiple roles at the same time. I completely understand what you are trying to achieve but I don't think that even if we do support users with multiple concurrent roles in the same team it will answer your need. The reason is that, at the moment it is not possible to associate worklogs to a users with a specific role. In JIRA all the worklogs are associated to a user regardless of its role.

The only workaround I see for this, would be to create another JIRA user that will aim at the same resource but with another role. This might become very cumbersome since  the user will have to login to the right account for him to log the hours under the right role. Also this might jack up your user count in JIRA =(

You could use the labels on issues to identify the type of work. This would only become handy in the expense report since you can filter it based on a label. The downfall would be that you wont have a global view on all the work performed by all users.

I hope this helps you understand better why tempo folio does not handle multi concurrent roles.
If you have more questions please do not hesitate

Cheers,
JC
