is it possible to create workflow in another BPMN application like bizagi and import into workflow designer using a XML file ?

Henrique Rossato August 3, 2015

Hello,

Is there any external BPM Application where I can create a BPMN diagram and export it as XML file compatible with JIRA XML Workflow ?

Because users here needs to create this document in order to IT team translate it into JIRA Workflow. If there is any way to export/import directly without translations by IT team, it would be great !

Thanks Alice and Teilor for the quick answers.

I don't think that the best editor for workflow is JIRA.

People from business don't need to understand something out of standard like JIRA Workflow Schema,

They know how to create BPMN design as a standard for business process modeling.

If I agree with your point, I'm saying that business people needs to access JIRA Platform and have access to workflow editor and learn how to create there using a new standard design where they will not able to see the roles envolved in the process, decisions objects, and more.

What I was searching is something that automatic translate something well known by Business people (BPMN diagram) to something well known by JIRA Developers (JIRA Workflow diagram).

I'm afraid I agree with my distant cousin on this one - the best editor for JIRA workflows is JIRA. The fact that other tools do not understand all the stuff JIRA can do automatically rules them out as good editors. I know you're talking about designing process rather than workflow, and that's fine, but there's no way to do the translation unless your tool can *fully* understand the workflow, and the only designer that does that is the one in JIRA.

Not really. Bizagi exports workflows in a XPDL format, which is a XML-like file format, but you would need to convert to XML and adjust the file to be compatible with the JIRA, which would be very difficult, as the option to import workflows in JIRA is just for workflows exported from another JIRA instance.

I agree with Alice that the best editor for JIRA workflows is JIRA .

Cheers!

In theory, yes, as JIRA workflows are transferrable as XML.

However, I've yet to see any BPMN tool that understands how JIRA workflows work well enough to do anything more than the absolute basics.  By far the best editor for JIRA workflows is JIRA - all the others fail to handle post-functions, triggers, conditions, etc in the way JIRA needs them.
