How can I install Confluence on a webserver (cpanel)

Rob Khamas November 5, 2013

Hi there,

I'm quite new to this so forgive me for my simple question. I would like to install Confluence and the related modules on my hosted server so I can access it via the web.

Is it possible to install it the same way you would install a web app such as SugarCRM etc..?

I do not think there is an easy Confluence installer via cPanel. You will need install Confluence per this article, https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Installing+Confluence+on+Linux. They do have an unattended mode but not sure if that will work with cPanel.

For the follow up part of you question you can run multiple instances, check out this article for JIRA, should work the same for Confluence.

Short: Yes it is. Check the admindocumentation for howtos.

Longer:

Confluence needs an applicationserver to run in. In your webserverconfig, you can then forward certain urls ("wiki.myserver.com") or certain paths (www.myserver.com/wiki) to your appserver in the backend.

You got all the options from outofthebox 10minutes-startup-kit to "deploy into an existing infrastructure as yet another application" bundles.

For a quick tryout, the ready2go bundles are perfectly fine. For a production environment, I would recommend a "regular" install and someone who knows what (s)he is doing.

Thanks. Can i install multiple confluence instances on the one app server? And then use the web server to redirect to the different folder/instance?

That is, have instance1 and instance2 on the same app server. Then setup a web server and configure it so that login.instance1.com takes it to instance one and same with login.instance2.com taking it to instance 2?
