SharePoint is a strong file repository tool with weak collaboration ability.
Confluence is a strong collaboration tool with medium-good file-repository ability.

Confluence wiki is just as easy as the SharePoint wiki, but it is much more powerful and pretty.

Office integration is slightly better in SharePoint.

One last note, there is a SharePoint connector that allows you to interweave the SharePoint file structure and the Confluence collaboration and wiki. BUT, it is only available for onprem instances of SharePoint, NOT currently available for SharePoint Online.

While Microsoft calls SharePoint a collaboration tool, collaboration abilities are being *quietly* removed from SharePoint Online.

To the last sentence, I'd add "collaberation abilities are being *noisily* added to Confluence"

@Milo Grika makes some great points.

Finally, check out Martin Siebert's blog post (though somewhat dated and arguably biased towards Confluence, the included comparison table may be helpful): https://blog.seibert-media.net/blog/2011/08/26/sharepoint-versus-confluence-criteria-requirements/

I think you should compare confluence to microsoft yammer instead of sharepoint:

https://products.office.com/en/yammer

Share point is more a web site with a file repository so people can have access to information, yammer is more used for collaboration purposes like confluence does.
