I am trying to include information on one of my pages from an external website, in this case wikipedia, by using the HTML Include macro. I inserted the macro, entered the URL I wanted (http://www.wikipedia.org/) and I get this error:
"Could not retrieve http://www.wikipedia.org/ - Page not permitted."
Now I know it's not a whitespace error because I tried to do the same thing without anything whitespaced and got a different error that was resolved when everything was whitespaced. Strangely enough, this error only applies to external websites. Pages within my Confluence site do not have this error with the HTML Include macro. I've also tried other websites and they don't work either.
Is there a fix to this? If not, is there any way I can dynamically retrieve information from an external wikipedia page?

You have to add the page/pages that you want to load to a whitelist:

Thanks for the quick reply. I have checked "allow all urls" on the configure whitelist settings page. The same error occurs. I have also tried putting the URL I want specifically and that doesn't work either.

one other thing to check is that the HTML include macro is enabled in the admin. I doubt you'd be able to add it to a page if it wasn't, but go to the Plugin admin page and look at the plugin modules. Make sure "html-include" is enabled.

Have you tried other sites or pages to include? ie, is this not working for just the URL you're trying, or is it not working for any page you try to include?

Yeah, I've tried other sites too and they all have the same error. The macro only works for internal pages (within Confluence). Maybe you can link me to a site that you have tried and you know works that I can try too?
I'm having trouble finding where to enable/disable the html-include macro. Do you mean the "Manage add-ons" page? But I do think it's enabled because it works for internal pages.

Interestingly enough, I get the same error with the RSS Feed macro. I think that for some reason external websites are not being allowed to be shown within Confluence. Is there any way to fix that?

I'm thinking your firewall is preventing Confluence from grabbing content from these other sites.

Check with your site administrator. This might be blocked.
I can load pages from wikipedia just fine with the HTML include macro on my Confluence site, so I suspect it's a limitation on your network.
