Changing Base URL for OnDemand JIRA

Azi Farjad September 2, 2013

Hi,

I want to change Base URL for my OnDemand JIRA service. When I press Edit in Settings Base URL edit box is disabled preventing me to change it. What can I do?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Azi

Actually, no. Your base url has to match the url presented by your OnDemand account, and that cannot be changed. You can arrange with support to get a new OnDemand account with the new url you want and then export and import.

There is a Knowledge base article outlining the process to do this here: - https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CLOUDKB/Changing+the+Cloud+instance+URL+address

Yes, that was enabled about a year after the question was asked.

Hi,

I understand changing the url is not a user function, but is there something that support can do on a case by case basis? I started a repository with my company name in the url to work with a client two years ago. I am now complete with the project, and I would like to hand over the repository to the client for their ongoing use. As part of this, they need the url changed from my company name to theirs. Are there any options for this?

Thanks,

Humberto

Hi Azi,

As Nic mentioned, you are not supposed to be able to modify the base URL of your OnDemand instance, as it is a restricted function. You can view the full list of restricted OnDemand functions here - Restricted Functions in Atlassian OnDemand

Joe, if you had an OnDemand instance and needed a different base URL for it, how would you accomplish that? Would you need to set up another instance altogether and migrate the original one to it?

Hi Colin, I ran into this questions and will provide some information in case any one is looking for this. If you want to change the Cloud instance URL (still needs to have the domain .atlassian.com), you can follow this guide: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CLOUDKB/Changing+the+Cloud+Instance+URL+Address+or+Migrating+to+a+New+Cloud+Instance This will require you to essentially move the data from one instance to another. Cheers, Andy Jean

Nothing. The base url is not changeable because if you change it to something other than where JIRA is available, it breaks things (no data damage, but broken links in emails, gadgets not returning data, some links and so on). Your base url should always be where JIRA is running.

I suspect what you are actually asking is for a different domain to be used for your JIRA. OnDemand only allows for a fixed range of domains and you can't move outside that. I don't know if you can change the domain for your account, but if you can, it will still have to be <somewhere>.atlassian.net (as per https://confluence.atlassian.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=253231647 ).

In short, your base url must match your domain, so you can't change it on OnDemand.
