What are the CLI output formats?

Julian Green (KMIS) August 22, 2013

Maybe I am being totally stupid but .......

I am trying to get started using the JIRA CLI and I have not found the documnetation terribly helpful

I want a list of all my components, so ...

I tried the runFromProjectList action. After a few false starts I discovered that I need --common to allow me to have a second "action" in a runFrom* command

jira.sh --action runFromProjectList --common '--action getComponentList --project @project@'

Run: --action getComponentList --project ALFRED
1 components for project: ALFRED
"Id","Name"
"10040","Orchestration Controller"

Run: --action getComponentList --project ARCH
0 components for project: ARCH

etc.

There is this mysterious facility fo Output format, but The most I can find so far is:

[--outputFormat <outputFormat>]
Specify output format for an action. (default: 1)

This is the sort of answer one might get from a little software house run by BG! It is entirely accurate and totally useless!!

Is there any better documentation of the commands and options;

If anyone could tellm ewhat the o/p formats are, it would be extremely helpful.

Many thanks

Julian

Totally agree! Where is the definition of what "--output-format 1" or 2 or 999 or whatever value supposed to do? I'm sick of searching the documentation and testing the output for a busy/large instance isn't helping much ... There must be a reason for this option... what values have what meaning?
