Confluence space usage

Abhishek Bhatt July 10, 2015

I would like to understand whether there is a mechanism by which we can view usage of a space. Ideally we would like to have the count of hits on each page and also the username who made those hits.

We already tried evaluating Confluence space usage and Space Auditor plugins but they have performance issues associated with them. Ours being a big instance of Confluence with 400+ spaces so we would not like to compromise on performance. Also we would like to analyse space usage for only few spaces not on all the spaces.

Please suggest if there is a way to achieve this.

What is the primary aim for analyzing the space usage?

  1. If you want to identify popular and active content, then the built-in Space Activity feature is the trivial option. But, as you mentioned, it has known performance implications.
  2. If, however, you want to identify unused content, then Archiving Plugin is worth a deeper look. It features page view tracking to find those pages no-one has viewed recently, in a configurable period.
  3. If, you don't mind storing your analytical data in Google's servers, you could integrate Confluence with Google Analytics using this plugin. It should scale without problems.

You could also try the view tracker plugin,  but if that's not working for you, you're down to log analysis on hits.
