Turn on HTML macro in Jira 6.0

Chris Dunstall August 5, 2013

I am the Jira admin for my organisation and I've had a request to enable the {html} macro. We use a version control system that connects to Jira and adds comments using the {html} macro.

In previous versions, it seems that it could be turned on (see the comments - they don't match the version of Jira the page is intended though) but the steps noted in the comments don't help for 6.0.

How do I turn on the HTML macro - it is in the editing help, so it must be useable - in our standalone Jira?

I have just verified that the steps do work in JIRA 6. They may need to be clarified though. Go to Manage Add-Ons. Then next to the "Filter visible addons" box is a drop down. Change this to say All Add-Ons. Then search for the word "wiki" and expand the Wiki Renderer Macros Plugin. Then click on the link on the right which says 7 of 8 modules enabled. Then click enable next to the last module which says "html".

Thanks, that did the trick. The location/wording is different now.

Are there security issues with enabling the macro?

Yes, anyone with access to edit field values can use XSS attacks with this macro enabled.

Is this available in JIRA v1000.1065.1, SaaS?

In my trial version, the Wiki Renderer Macros Plugin contains 7 modules and the HTML module is not among them.

Is the HTML module not available in the web app? It only allows 7 of the 8 modules.
