migrate confluence 3.3 to 5.8

At Lassian July 4, 2015

We are a small 5-person outfit in Amsterdam. We have been stalling a migration to a higher confluence version for soo long, because it is a very complicated process. Now we finally have someone who is brave enough to try, we are running into very practical problems.

  • do we have to migrate as follows: 3.3 > 3.5.1 > 5.0.1 > 5.8
  • do we really have to install complete confluence installations for each consequtive step
  • do we need to request trial keys for those installations to work
  • is there no easier solution? (we use nothing fancy, it is like a simple wiki website with some attachments now)

Thanks for all help!

Oscar

  1. Possibly not, you might be able to jump from 3.5 to 5.8, but unless your Confluence is only using really basic functions, it's unlikely.  The route you have here is the recommended one
  2. Yes.  But you don't have to actually use them
  3. No.  The same licence will work all the way though
  4. No.  You're trying to do something quite complex, and it's a long path.  Three steps isn't actually that much!

Dear Nic Thank you so much for your answer. I guess that if we do the step-wise approach anyway, we may as well include the 5.01. step. Wish us luck :-)
