I have done this in the past as I have a workflow with 8 status and each can use a transition called "Assign/Comment" that uses a custom screen to put the issue back on the same status.

We use it as a way to have users update an issue with a comment and remember to assign it to someone else, without changing the status.

I now need to add a new status to this workflow can cannot get a transition to work that will assign back to the same status. When I try I get "You cannot perform this operation on a draft workflow".

How do I add a transition without taking the workflow into draft mode.

You can not add a transition without editing the workflow.  There are two levels of editing

  • Draft lets you amend some parts of a workflow, but not anything that might require data migration if you changed it (the obvious one is removing a status, but there are some others that don't quite work too)
  • Full edit lets you do anything you want to a workflow, but requires that the workflow is not active

It sounds like you've run into something draft can't handle.  Copy the workflow, work on the inactive one, copy the workflow scheme in use, amend the new one to use your new workflow, then apply it to the project.

I seem to be running into this issue even though I am editing a draft inactive workflow. I have deleted all transitions from the status, but it is still telling me I cannot remove it. Not sure what else to do!

Any other suggestions?

Try copying the workflow to a new one and removing the status there.

It's an inactive workflow, but I did try this and it still didn't work. I ended up just rebuilding it in a new workflow without the unnecessary status. Thanks though! Not entirely sure what was going on there.

Hi Eric,

You can't remove/add a Status from a draft workflow, since any projects should be still using it (and probably have some issues in that specific Status).

To delete/add a Status, you need to disable this Workflow by associating a different one to the projects, making this one idle. After that, the option to remove/add a Status will appear.

Hope it helps!

Andre
