SOAP API Error: too many logins

Mark Turner July 7, 2013

When trying to logon to SOAP API, I am getting an error:

User account might have been locked from Jira due to wrong login attempts. Please log into the application through the web interface to reset the number of failed login attempts.

How do I get this message to disappear using JIRA Studio?

After a number of failed login attempts (around 5) either through the API or the web interface, the account will be locked and can only be unlocked by solving a CAPTCHA.

In order to get the message to disappear, you need to do what it says and log in to your instance with that user account via the web interface (i.e. using a browser and log in at example.jira.com or example.atlassian.net). It will then prompt you to solve a CAPTCHA (a word presented via an obscured image) in addition to filling out the login form correctly. Once that is done, the account will be unlocked and can be used via the API again.

Note that JIRA Studio doesn't exist any more (having grown into Atlassian OnDemand).
