Can I create a new Jira Project using the REST API ?

I've looked at https://docs.atlassian.com/jira/REST/latest/ and I don't see a way to create a new project using the REST API. It looks like it used to be available with the SOAP , but that is being deprecated .. Anyone know if there is a way ? Thx Alex

We found the best mechanism to use is https://bobswift.atlassian.net/wiki/display/JCLI/JIRA+Command+Line+Interface, which pieces together the various not so awesome APIs..
