Set developer licence after "Restore JIRA data from prod Backup" ?

Antoine Berthelin June 10, 2015

Hello,

This is my use case

1) I have populate my developpement database using restore from production.

2) I use atlas-debug and hsql-db

3) I have create JIRA Home using atlas-create-home-zip

4) My server is started with atlas-debug

5) My server has production licence instead of developper licence.

Question : How can I unset production licence and let atlas-** command set developer licence ?

Thanks

Antoine

Antoine,

You can get a developer license through My Atlassian. See screenshot below as an example (it's for Confluence, but for JIRA it should be pretty similar).

I think JIRA needs to step forward towards developers. It is pretty inconvenient how it is done now to set up testing environment:

  1. Build your plugin and deploy it to local maven
  2. Create folder for JIRA
  3. Run atlas-debug
  4. Stop atlas-debug
  5. Restore dbconfig.xml and jdbc driver from your production
  6. Run atlas-debug
  7. Sic! get a license from Atlassian to run your server. You need it only to start JIRA for the first time.
  8. Restore backup of your production server
  9. Create user admin:admin
  10. Start development

The whole process cannot be automated and takes up to 30 minutes. It is almost impossible to run integration tests in auto mode on real data.

It is also a nightmare that you cannot restore old JIRA backup on fresh JIRA. If you missed the point and started JIRA 7.0.5, you will not be able to use 7.0.2 backup.

In fact I have dozens of evaluation licenses - actually I have to get one each time I make atlas-clean on my test server.

Hello,

Thanks you, I found my developer licence on my "production" license type.

To complete your answer, developer licence link is not present on following JIRA offer :

  • JIRA on demand license (cloud)
  • Evaluation licence

I have many type of license ...

Best,

Antoine

Hi Antoine!

You can change the license used by JIRA through its UI. Just go into AdministrationSystemLicense.

Hello @Joao Palharini [Atlassian],

Thanks for your response but where can I find "developer licence" ?

As I know, developer license is set by atlas-XXX command, after restore production data, I lost "developer licence" for my instance.

Licence manager doesn't propose a "developer" licence (only eval licence) as I know.

How can I set developer licence in UI into Administration > SystemLicense ?

Thanks for your help.

Antoine
