Hi,

Can somebody explain to me how this new feature of following question is working?

I noticed that some questions are having a lot of followers and some are not..

Do you become automaticaly a follower when you will add an answer or a comment (or maybe also other activity)?

I addition.. How to view users and questions to see how many I am following?

Finally.. When reading Karma page (https://answers.atlassian.com/karma/) I noticed something like:

10 Karma - for each member that follows your question

Is this working fine? That means that if someone will add a comment it will become a follower and person that added a question will recieve karma? Or.. maybe only if someone will not yet a comment and will click on "Follow Question" ..

Please help me understand this feature.

Thanks,

Mirek

Hi - There are a few ways a user can follow a question.

1. If they perform any activity on the question (e.g. add a comment, add an answer, upvote an answer, like a comment)

2. If they choose to follow the question (by clicking the button) without performing any activity.

You can see users you are following on the users page (the users you are following will be denoted with the Follow User Button selected). You can see which questions you are following by going to the homepage and selecting "You Follow" from the dropdown.

And lastly, no, you will not receive 10 points per follower on your question. The text in the FAQ is misleading. Updating now.

Hi Aleksandra,

If they perform any activity on the question (e.g. add a comment, add an answer, upvote an answer, like a comment)

Can I somehow disable this by default and only follow questions when I will click on “Follow Question”? Or I will need to always unfollow every question that I do not want to follow?

If they choose to follow the question (by clicking the button) without performing any activity.

Is there and option to see who is following my question?

You can see users you are following on the users page (the users you are following will be denoted with the Follow User Button selected).

On the users page we are having currently 1153 subpages with a list of users.. I do not know how other users but I am not feeling too comfortable with clicking every page to check who I am following .. My sugesstion: There should be a button next to Reputation | Recent | Oldest | by Username named as for example Followed that will show only those users ..

You can see which questions you are following by going to the homepage and selecting "You Follow" from the dropdown.

Got it! Working fine.. Thanks!

And lastly, no, you will not receive 10 points per follower on your question. The text in the FAQ is misleading. Updating now.

I agree that that was not the best option to give karma.. Now I see that we have a little change to the text in the FAQ including new points.. Thank you for looking into this!

Agree .. I noticed on first day when looking at the new Answers design.. I have created a issue to track this: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/ANSWERS-1040

Ehh.. So many issues after UI change...

And another thing, it's funny how I can follow myself as a user :) That shouldn't be like that right?

It's really odd. According to this very page, your question has 7 views, 9 followers and no comments/answers. I've seen people with 1 karma posting a question and gathering some 10+ followers and still left with 1 karma.

Anyway, IMHO 10 karma points is a bit too much. A regular question would get an average of 2-5 people to respond/comment. Assuming they are "auto-following" the question, that would give 20-50 karma points to the one who asked the question. That'll usually end up giving more karma points for asking a question than for answering one.
