Is Bamboo unable to track where a feature branch is deployed?

Michael Nadel May 4, 2015

We have Bamboo and JIRA integrated. We ensure all our commits contain a valid JIRA issue key. Some projects are using trunk-based development. For those projects, Bamboo is flawlessly able to track if and where builds are deployed. However, for projects using feature branching, when Bamboo detects and builds a branch, it gets confused. I'm not sure how it's tracking what's deployed where, but when I push a feature branch for the very first time, upon build completion it erroneously reports it's been deployed to various environments (via the build result's Deployments tab).

Michael, I'm also posting my response here, to the community. The 'Deployments' tab (inside Bamboo) works a little bit different, I'm afraid. It actually shows (regardless from which branch you're accessing it from) the latest deployment that was executed in that plan. That is, Bamboo was designed to always keep the user up to date on the latest deployment regardless of the branch you are vs. showing the latest deployment executed using that specific plan branch.

Although you're right when you say that it's difficult to track when & where your branches were deployed. The only place to check this info would be the Deployment Project > Releases page (image below), there you'll be able to see which deploys were made using which branches and etc. However, you will not be able to pull a list or access a page that will contain a list of which releases were executed using a specific branch, for example.

Hope this helps.
