jira greenhopper plugin jar's directory after extraction

Shradha Singh May 3, 2015

Hi JIRA Experts

Can you please help me in understanding where does JIRA extracts jira-greehopper-plugin-6.6.xx.jar as soon as it is uploaded and installed through Manage Add Ons>upload add on link.

I can find the jar in /installed_plugins folder but cant find the underlying extracted files.

Regards

Hi Nic Brough

We are using JIRA and JIRA Agile in our company so we have licenses for both of them.

We have a requirement to do some customization on the click of "Start Sprint" button on JIRA Agile Scrum board.

Requirement: Show an alert message to user if 'FixVersion' and/or 'Estimation' field is blank. User should not be able to Start Sprint in this case.

I have successfully managed to do that on my local instance by executing following steps:

  1. Download jira greenhopper jar (jira-greenhopper-plugin-6.6.51.jar) which is responsible for installing JIRA Agile plugin
  2. Unjar it using “jar –xvf jira-greenhopper-plugin-6.6.51.jar”  (on Windows as well as on Linux)
  3. Open .js files
  4. Make changes in .js file. My change went in /includes/rapid/js/ui/plan/SprintController.js
  5. Create jar again by using ja –cMf jira-greenhopper-plugin-6.6.51.jar *
  6. Login into JIRA
  7. Go to Add Ons > Manage Add Ons
  8. Uninstall JIRA Agile plugin
  9. Install newly created jar  (created in step 5)
  10. Click on “Upload Add On” > Choose file > and click OK

I have managed to do all these steps on my local instance but not on JIRA Development server where licensed jira-greenhopper-plugin.jar is installed. So that is why I asked. Can I make changes in JIRA Agile licensed jar after extracting it and upload it again.

I tried but I could not upload newly created jar on JIRA Development server. So I thought if I can make changes in the extracted .js file on the server itself.

Regards
Shradha

That's a really bad idea. You should be building the addon from source, properly, not bodging changes in.

The short answer is that they're not, and you don't need to know anyway, because you never want to do anything with them.

Why are you asking about this?
