Show URL when attaching Bonfire Screenshot to existing issue

Corey Coogan March 21, 2013

I really like Bonfire and the ability to quickly create bugs and attach them an existing issue. One thing that I keep getting asked is to automatically put the URL in the comment along with the screen shot and browser information. The only that shows up in the comment is the User Agent information. I have to tell our users to manually copy/paste the URL. When creating a new issue, the included client information is perfect.

I read this ticket with great hopes becuase it sounds like what I need. Unfortunately, Jira said the URL is included, but that just isn't so, as you can see below by the test screen shot I attached to an issue.

Can anyone tell me how to get the URL and other client info in the comments when a bonfire screen shot is attached to an existing issue?

test what gets attached

*User Agent:* Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_5) AppleWebKit/537.22 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/25.0.1364.172 Safari/537.22

I agree with Corey on this. The page url is very important aspect of the screenshot that is incoming in comments. No idea why it would not be captured, just like in the original report.

Greetings,

For some reason the screenshot you attached didn't come through. In any case, from our docs:

Previously, issue field variables could only be used within a template, and they would be evaluated at the time the template was used.

For Bonfire 2.2, we've introduced smarter variables that are no longer tied to templates. You can type in a variable at any time during issue creation, even if you're not using a template.

I beleive you would be using Bonfire 2.6. With that, sorry to throw all these links at you but they seemed relevant to your situation. The links discuss a new feature called Dynamic variables on the fly:

I hope this info get's you on the right path.

That's sort of what we want, but it's not really practical to educate all users to remember to put {url} on every bonfire screen shot they take. The URL is captured on new bonfire tickets, why not make it part of the comments when attaching to an existing ticket? I'm sure that information is useful far more often than it's not.
