How do you manage documentation in several languages?

Identity April 6, 2015

Hello.

More of a documentation structure/organization question.

What should be the best way to manage documentation in several languages?

I have a few modules, bundled in a few topics, and I would like to provide the same document in several languages. Do I simple create multi-language versions of the same modules and create different topics?

Thanks for any insight. Regards.

Enterprise Translations Hub for Atlassian Confluence was built for exactly the use case you describe. One base language, and translate all from within Confluence into multiple different languages..  Features include:

  • Confluence documentation translated on demand (automated)
  • Search returns results in language searched for, not all languages
  • Per language table of contents, and corresponding documents - per space
  • Rapid translations in a secure environment (enterprise-grade)
  • Real-time translation status and progress reports
  • In-Confluence "post-editing" panel to correct translations following run (i.e., tune the translation engine)
  • Post-edits saved back to Translation memory, allowing for accuracy growth
  • Version support between iterations of the documentation
  • Translated vocabulary tailored to your context
  • 100+ languages supported
  • in-app Machine Translator (MT) engine support, including:
    • AppTek Omnifluent
    • Asia Online
    • Google Translate, Enterprise version
    • Language Weaver
    • Microsoft Translator, Enterprise edition
    • Microsoft Translator Hub (for Enterprise)
    • SDL BeGlobal
    • And any other MT engine that has an API

I do not work for either company so I do not have any idea if they are planning a cloud version of their add-ons.
